Answer Garden is a free easy to use tool for gathering information and brainstorming. You don't have to resister either. You basically type in a question or topic and share.
There are a few different Answer Garden "modes" which provide varying degrees of control over the responses. I tend to use the "brainstorm" or the "classroom" mode most often. Both allow an unlimited number of answers - brainstorm mode also allows repeats of the same answer while classroom mode only allows one of each answer.
You can also control the number of characters (up to 20 or 40) per answer. Other features include a password and email reminder (you will receive an email with link and password).
Once students start responding the "garden starts to grow". The responses will appear in the Answer Garden. I like to show the results on a screen for the class to view and expand upon together. This provides a good lead-in opportunity for discussion about the topic.
I should also mention that the more times an answer is given the larger that word will appear.
There are also several options for exporting. The answers can be exported to Tagxedo, Wordle, Twitter, or downloaded as an image.
